Day 78 Through The Bible
Day 78: Understanding God's Authority and His Plan for Our Lives
Biblical Principle: In today's reflection, we explore an essential biblical truth: no conflict exists between God’s impartiality and His establishment of authority in our lives. People often struggle to understand how God's universal truth, which affirms that He is not a respecter of persons, can coexist with the structure of leadership He has placed in our lives. However, a closer look at Scripture reveals that these two truths are not in opposition but complementary parts of God’s divine plan.
Scripture Reference: Numbers 16:1-5 (KJV)
“Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:
And they rose before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
And they gathered themselves against Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore lift ye yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?
And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:
And he spake unto Korah and all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.”
In this passage, Korah and his companions rebelled against Moses and Aaron's leadership, questioning why they had been elevated above the congregation of Israel. They assumed that since God had made the entire congregation holy, Moses and Aaron had no exceptional standing. Moses, in response, humbly fell on his face and reminded them that it is God who chooses those who are to lead and serve. God would reveal His chosen leaders the next day.
Key Insight: Korah and his followers' rebellion serves as a warning. While it’s true that all believers are equal before God and equally loved by Him, this does not negate that God has ordained certain authorities in our lives. Whether in the home, church, or government, God has placed leadership to guide and direct His people. The principle is clear: We must respect the authorities He has established, even as we acknowledge that all believers are equally valued in His sight.
Moses' response to Korah’s rebellion points to the fact that God’s authority is not based on human preference or merit but on divine choice. Moses did not elevate himself but was chosen by God. Similarly, God calls individuals to leadership positions for His purposes, and we are to honor those positions while remembering that God is not partial. This balance of truth ensures we maintain humility while understanding our roles in God’s plan.
Practical Application: In applying this truth to our daily lives, we must acknowledge that God's plan for authority has never changed. As Hebrews 13:7-8 reminds us:
“Remember them which rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”
This verse calls us to respect and follow the spiritual leaders who have faithfully preached the word of God. Just as God ordained the leadership of Moses and Aaron, so were the leaders in our churches, families, and communities.
In a practical sense, we can begin by honoring those in positions of authority in our lives. This might mean submitting to leaders at work, respecting our parents, or following the guidance of pastors and elders in the church. However, this doesn’t mean blind obedience or tolerating unjust authority. If the leadership contradicts God's Word, we must stand firm in truth, just as Moses did when he reminded Korah that God, not man, established his role.
Conclusion: God’s plan for authority does not contradict His justice or impartiality. Instead, it is a beautiful part of His design to bring order, growth, and purpose into our lives. By respecting the authorities He places in our lives, we acknowledge His sovereignty and align ourselves with His will. As we grow in our faith, let us continually reflect on how we can honor those He has chosen to lead us while remembering that God is the ultimate authority over all things.
We must have a deliberate purpose in everything we do to follow His example and live in harmony with the principles He has established in His Word.
