Day 41: Trusting God Between the Rock and the Hard Place

Biblical Principle: Absolute Truth from God’s Word
Sometimes, God places us in impossible situations—not to punish us but to demonstrate His power and deliver us. He may position us "between a rock and a hard place" to defeat the enemy and glorify His name.

In Exodus 14:2-4, we see this truth unfold as God commands Moses to lead the Israelites to camp between Pihahiroth, Migdol, and the sea. This location was strategically vulnerable, trapping the Israelites between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea. God allowed this so that the Pharaoh would pursue them, enabling God to demonstrate His glory by destroying the Pharaoh’s army.

“For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in. And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD.” (Exodus 14:3-4)

What seemed like an impossible situation was God’s setup for victory. By parting the Red Sea, He delivered the Israelites and showcased His unmatched sovereignty.

Practical Application: Freedom with Responsibility
God desires freedom for us—physical freedom like the Israelites experienced and spiritual freedom through Jesus Christ. Yet, this freedom isn’t about serving ourselves but serving others in love.

In Galatians 5:9-13, Paul warns about using freedom selfishly:
“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” (Galatians 5:13)

Just as God delivered the Israelites to freedom through Christ, He has given us liberty. But this freedom comes with a responsibility: to live in a way that honors Him and reflects His love for others. We must avoid letting "a little leaven" (sin, selfishness, or false teaching) corrupt our lives. True Christian liberty isn’t about indulging our desires but glorifying God and uplifting those around us.

Takeaway for Today
God’s ways may not always make sense, but they are always purposeful. When we feel trapped or overwhelmed, we can trust that He’s setting the stage for a more significant victory that showcases His power and goodness. Our job is to trust, obey, and step forward in faith in those moments.

Likewise, as we walk in the freedom Christ has given us, let’s remember to use that freedom not for selfish gain but to serve others in love. Whether forgiving someone, meeting a need, or sharing the gospel, our liberty is a tool for advancing God’s kingdom.

So, if you’re feeling stuck today, consider this: God may have you “between a rock and a hard place” to destroy the enemy in your life and lead you into greater freedom. Trust Him, step out in faith, and use the freedom He’s given you to serve others for His glory.

Evangelist Dan Woltmann grew up in the home of full time Christian school teachers. Saved at the tender age of 5, Dan surrendered to preach at the age of 14; he preached his first sermon at 16 to his youth group. He was privileged to meet and to learn from many pillars of fundamentalism and outstanding preachers. From these men he developed a strong conviction on the truth of God’s Word.

Dan’s ministry experience is vast and varied. From starting four Christian service Bible clubs in college, to revitalizing churches and church ministries now for nearly 35 years. Direct one on one to ministry leaders as well as demostrating Biblical Worldview in the corporate world.
