Day 38: The Power of Identity Through the Blood

Biblical Principle: Absolute Truth from God’s Word

In the story of the final plague in Egypt, God’s judgment was just and precise. Exodus 11:4-7 recounts a pivotal moment where the LORD declares that He will go out into Egypt at midnight, and all the firstborns in the land will die. This act was not arbitrary but revealed a distinction: life was granted to those who had applied the lamb's blood, marking their identity as members of God’s family. Conversely, those without the blood faced judgment, marking their identity as belonging to a different family.

God’s Word reminds us of the weight and significance of His justice. The blood was not just a symbol—it was a declaration of allegiance and identity, signifying who belonged to the Lord and who did not.

Scripture Reflection: Exodus 11:4-7

And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: 5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. 6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it anymore. 7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

This passage highlights two eternal truths: God’s judgment is just, and His mercy is intentional. One thing alone determined the distinction between life and death: whether the blood had been applied.

Practical Application: Whose Family Do You Belong To?

Our accomplishments, status, or possessions do not define who we are. Our true identity is found in whose family we belong to. Just as the Israelites were spared through the lamb's blood, so are we when the blood of Christ is applied to our lives. This change in identity transforms everything.

For me, salvation came the moment I moved from being a member of the "wrong family" to being a child of the King. The blood of the Cross made all the difference. Now, when someone asks me, “Who are you?” my answer is simple yet profound: I am a child of the King.

This identity is unshakable. It reminds me daily that my values and purpose are rooted in belonging to God’s family. It also challenges me to live in a way that reflects this truth, walking in the confidence and peace that come from being His.

Final Thoughts

God’s distinction between the Egyptians and the Israelites in Exodus wasn’t based on their merit or deeds. It was based solely on their identity—revealed by the application of the blood. The same principle applies to us today. When we live under the covering of Christ’s blood, we belong to God’s family, marked for life and victory.

Take time today to reflect on this truth: Who are you? If your answer is a child of the King, live boldly in that identity, knowing His blood has covered and set you apart.
