Day 29: The Fulfillment of God’s Promises—A Life of Surrender

In our walk with God, there are moments when we need to step back and reflect on the larger picture of His promises. Whether we're in a season of abundance or trial, it’s crucial to remember that the proper fulfillment of God’s promises is not found in our circumstances or worldly wealth. Instead, it is rooted in His presence and His divine provision.

Biblical Principle: The Fulfillment of God's Promise

Joseph, one of the most prominent figures in the Bible, provides us with a powerful example of this principle. In Genesis 50:24-25, we see that Joseph, though prosperous in Egypt, knew that true fulfillment would not come from the land he was in. Despite being in a foreign land surrounded by wealth and power, Joseph's heart was fixed on the land God had promised his forefathers.

Joseph's journey is a reminder that the land of promise is more than a physical place—it’s a place of abundant life in God's will. Joseph was a man who lived in alignment with God’s purpose, and this alignment led to his success. The Bible tells us that “the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian” (Genesis 39:2). God’s presence made him prosper in everything he did, but Joseph knew that prosperity was not the end goal. The end goal was always God’s promise of a land flowing with blessing—a promise made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

In Genesis 50:25, Joseph speaks to his brothers as he nears his death: “God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.” Even in death, Joseph holds onto the promise that God would one day lead His people out of Egypt and into the land He had promised them. Joseph’s declaration wasn't just a personal wish but a powerful act of faith in God’s timing and faithfulness.

The author of Hebrews affirms this act of faith in Hebrews 11:22, stating, "By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones." This is a striking reminder that Joseph’s hope was not in Egypt's riches but in God's covenant promises. Despite facing death, Joseph focused on the land of promise, where God's people would experience true freedom and blessing.

Practical Application: The Promise Land of a Surrendered Life

So, what does this mean for us today? How can we practically apply this biblical principle in our lives?

First, we must understand that the "land of promise" for us isn't a physical place on earth—it is the life God promised to those who walk in His ways. This life is marked by abundance—not necessarily material wealth but spiritual growth, peace, joy, and purpose. The victorious Christian life is found in the surrendered life, where we allow God to lead us, fight our battles, and prosper us according to His will.

Joseph’s story teaches us a crucial lesson: When we trust God’s promises and surrender our desires to His will, we experience a deeper fulfillment beyond what this world can offer. Prosperity in the kingdom of God doesn’t look like worldly success—it looks like obedience, faithfulness, and dependence on God.

To live a victorious Christian life, we must surrender our will to God, trusting that He will lead us to the “promised land”—a life where we experience the abundant blessings of His presence. This surrender requires faith—faith that God will fight our battles, that He is working behind the scenes even when we can’t see it, and that He is always faithful to His promises.

How do we apply this in our day-to-day lives?

  1. Surrender your ambitions – Like Joseph, you may have dreams and ambitions, but they must be held loosely in your hands. Trust that God’s plan is more significant than any of your own and that His path will always lead you to the place where His promises are fulfilled.

  2. Live with a focus on eternal promises – The temporary blessings of this world do not define our lives. Just as Joseph looked beyond the prosperity of Egypt to the land of promise, we should live with an eternal perspective, seeking God’s will above all else.

  3. Trust in God’s provision – Whether you're in a season of plenty or lack, God’s provision is abundant and consistent enough for His purposes. Trust that He is with you, as He was with Joseph, and that He will provide for you according to His will.

  4. Fight battles in God’s strength – The victorious Christian life is not about fighting on our own but letting God fight the battles for us. When we surrender our will to God, He fights for us, leading us to victory and abundant life.

Conclusion: The Land of Promise is a Life of Surrender

In a world that constantly seeks fulfillment in material wealth, status, and success, we must remember that the actual land of promise is found in the life of a surrendered believer. Just like Joseph, who refused to place his hope in Egypt’s wealth, we are called to set our hearts on God’s eternal promises. When we surrender to God’s will, we enter into the victorious Christian life marked by His presence, provision, and peace.

As we reflect on Joseph's journey, let us remember that our true fulfillment doesn’t come from our circumstances but from God’s promises. His land of promise is a life of abundant peace and victory found only in a surrendered heart. Are you ready to step into that promise today?

Evangelist Dan Woltmann grew up in the home of full time Christian school teachers. Saved at the tender age of 5, Dan surrendered to preach at the age of 14; he preached his first sermon at 16 to his youth group. He was privileged to meet and to learn from many pillars of fundamentalism and outstanding preachers. From these men he developed a strong conviction on the truth of God’s Word.

Dan’s ministry experience is vast and varied. From starting four Christian service Bible clubs in college, to revitalizing churches and church ministries now for nearly 35 years. Direct one on one to ministry leaders as well as demostrating Biblical Worldview in the corporate world.
