Day 104 Through The Bible
Day 104: Trusting God's Word Over Man's Opinion
Biblical Principle – Trust God’s Word, Not Man’s Word
We live in a world where opinions abound—on social media, in conversations with loved ones, and even from well-meaning believers. But no matter how close someone is to us or how good their intentions may seem, God's Word must remain our absolute authority. His truth is eternal, unchanging, and perfect. Human understanding is flawed and limited, but the Lord sees what we cannot. He sees hearts, motives, and the unseen spiritual battles that rage around us.
God’s command is clear: We are to trust in His Word and His discernment, not our own or others’ reasoning. People may try to convince us that certain individuals or behaviors aren’t harmful just because they don’t “look” evil. But Scripture reminds us that the enemy is not just visible wickedness—it is the deceit and rebellion within hearts turned away from God. And this spiritual enemy is not always obvious. It can come masked in charm, charisma, or even familiarity.
Deuteronomy 13:12–18 shows the seriousness with which God commands us to deal with rebellion and idolatry. If a city, gifted by God, turns from Him to serve false gods, the response is not passive tolerance—it’s decisive action. The passage speaks of purging evil entirely so that God’s anger is turned away and His mercy and blessings may flow again. This isn’t just about a physical city—it represents any place, relationship, or influence in our lives that pulls us away from the one true God.
“...to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.” – Deuteronomy 13:18
Practical Application – Standing in Truth
This principle calls us to vigilance in our daily lives. Spiritual warfare is real, and Satan’s most effective weapon is deception. He doesn’t always come as a roaring lion; sometimes, he comes as an angel of light. That’s why we must run everything—everyone—through the filter of God’s Word. What sounds good or feels right isn’t always what is right.
James 4:4 warns us starkly: friendship with the world is enmity with God. This doesn’t mean we isolate ourselves from the world completely, but it does mean we don’t align our values with it. The world says, “Follow your heart,” but God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things.” (Jeremiah 17:9) The world says, “Be tolerant,” but God says, “Be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
We must be willing to stand alone if necessary, doing what is right in God’s eyes, not man’s. This may mean walking away from certain relationships, rejecting worldly entertainment, or refusing to compromise on biblical truth even when it’s unpopular. It’s not always easy—but it’s always worth it.
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, help me to trust Your Word above all else. Give me the discernment to see through deception and the courage to stand for truth, even when it costs me. Purge from my life anything that draws my heart away from You. May I always do what is right in Your eyes, not in the eyes of the world. Amen.
Let today be a reminder: Truth is not determined by popularity, emotions, or appearance. Truth is what God says. Stand firm in it—even if you must stand alone.
